- Nota: Mr Bastien, after having handed/in a certain number of Bills, just as he/was about retiring from the box, suddenly/addressing himselft to the Court, said : "I am/informed that divers persons have approached/some of the Grand Jury, in order to influence/and induce them to find "no Bill" against cer/tain parties. Under such circonstances ,/I would like to know what is to be done"./ I immediately answered him that the matter/was a most serious one and that, if brought/before me in the proper way, I would/feel bound to direct the immediate at/ttention of the crown prosecutors to the/subject. Whereupon Mr Davidson L.C. arose and said that if something de/finite was made the basis of the ac/cusation, the Crown would proceed at/once, against the guilty parties. This was/ the end of this incident, and I never/heard another word on the subject/durint the remainder of the term./Having, the next day, consulted with the/Chief Justice on the matter, he approved/of my answer and said that he would/not have given any other, and, in fact,/no other could be made!
